Amasis MT Std Black Italic

Amasis MT Std Black Italic is a humanist slab serif typeface designed by Ron Carpenter for Monotype in 1990. Unlike more mechanical slab serifs, Amasis is characterized by its calligraphic underpinnings and organic shapes, which provide a warmer and more approachable feel than traditional Egyptian styles. This unique blend of industrial strength and humanist elegance allows the font to bridge the gap between traditional book typography and modern display design.

The Black Italic weight is a powerhouse within the family, offering a dense, authoritative presence with a dynamic slant that suggests movement and urgency. Its generous x-height and open counters ensure high legibility even at large scales, making it a favorite for high-impact editorial layouts and corporate branding. The design remains sophisticated while maintaining the sturdy, reliable characteristics expected of a premium slab serif typeface.
