American Text Regular

American Text Regular was originally designed by the renowned typographer Morris Fuller Benton in 1932 for the American Type Founders (ATF). This typeface serves as a modern, American interpretation of traditional blackletter or Gothic scripts, often referred to as 'Old English.' Benton simplified many of the complex flourishes found in medieval calligraphy to create a face that remained highly decorative while improving legibility for the printing standards of the early 20th century.

Characterized by its strong verticality, sharp terminals, and dense texture, American Text has become synonymous with institutional authority. It is most famously utilized for formal documents such as diplomas, legal certificates, and newspaper mastheads. Its enduring design captures a sense of heritage and prestige, making it a go-to choice for designers looking to evoke a sense of tradition and historical significance in their projects.
