Balkan Normal

Balkan Normal is part of a groundbreaking type system designed to bridge the gap between the Latin and Cyrillic scripts used throughout the Balkan region. Created by Nikola Djurek and Marija Juza of Typonine, the font family was developed as a tool to facilitate communication in regions where two alphabets coexist. The typeface is characterized by its clean, geometric sans-serif structure, offering a harmonious aesthetic that respects the unique characteristics of both writing systems while maintaining visual consistency.

The development of Balkan Normal involved extensive research into the historical and cultural context of Slavic typography. Its versatile design makes it an excellent choice for educational, governmental, and cultural institutions that require multi-script support. The font has been widely recognized in the design community for its functional innovation and its ability to act as a linguistic bridge, proving that typography can serve as a powerful medium for regional identity and cross-cultural understanding.
