Berthold City Bold Italic

Berthold City Bold Italic was designed by the renowned German typographer Georg Trump in 1930 for the H. Berthold AG type foundry. This typeface is a quintessential example of a geometric slab serif, characterized by its rigid, rectangular structure and unbracketed serifs. The Bold Italic version adds a sense of dynamic movement and industrial strength to the design, making it highly effective for authoritative and masculine communication.

Unlike many other slab serifs of its era, City features a distinctive mechanical quality that gives it an architectural feel. Its unique square-shaped counters and heavy weight have made it a favorite for corporate identities, most notably being used by major international brands for their logos and branding materials. It remains a timeless choice for designers seeking a font that combines modernist aesthetics with high-impact visibility.
