BIZ UDPGothic Regular is a distinguished Japanese font developed by the world-renowned foundry Morisawa. It was created as part of the Universal Design (UD) series, specifically engineered to prioritize legibility and readability for a diverse range of users, including those with visual impairments. The font was famously integrated into Windows 10 through a collaboration between Microsoft and Morisawa to improve the quality of business documentation and digital communication.
The "UDP" in its name stands for "Universal Design Proportional," indicating that the font utilizes proportional spacing for its kana and Latin characters while maintaining consistent heights for kanji. This balance ensures that text remains aesthetically pleasing and easy to scan across both print and digital mediums. Since its release under the SIL Open Font License, it has become a staple for developers and designers seeking a professional, high-performance Gothic typeface for global projects.
