Century MT Std Regular

Century MT Std Regular traces its origins back to the late 19th century, specifically designed by Linn Boyd Benton and later refined by his son, Morris Fuller Benton. It was commissioned for The Century Magazine with the primary objective of enhancing legibility compared to the narrow, spindly typefaces common at the time. This Monotype version preserves the robust character and high readability that made the original a staple in American publishing and educational materials for over a hundred years.

The typeface is characterized by its vertical axis, large x-height, and sturdy bracketed serifs. These features ensure that the font remains clear and distinct even at smaller point sizes or when printed on lower-quality paper. As part of the wider Century family, the Regular weight serves as an industry standard for long-form body text, offering a timeless aesthetic that bridges the gap between traditional old-style serifs and more modern, mechanical designs.
