Champion Regular

Champion Regular is a powerhouse of a typeface, originally conceived by Jonathan Hoefler for Sports Illustrated in the late 1980s. Drawing deep inspiration from the rugged, condensed 19th-century American wood types, this font family was designed to reclaim the energy and versatility of vintage advertising. It serves as a modern homage to the utilitarian sans-serifs that defined early sports journalism and broadsheet posters.

The typeface is characterized by its high-impact, condensed letterforms and varying weights that provide extreme flexibility for editorial layouts. Its ability to command attention while maintaining a clean, professional aesthetic has made it a favorite among graphic designers for decades. Whether used for massive headlines or compact display banners, Champion Regular remains a cornerstone of contemporary display typography.
