Charter SC ITC TT Regular

Charter SC ITC TT Regular is a masterwork by the renowned typographer Matthew Carter, originally conceived in 1987 for Bitstream. The ITC (International Typeface Corporation) version expanded this family, providing the specialized Small Caps variant to offer designers a more sophisticated typographic hierarchy. Historically, Charter was one of the first typefaces designed specifically to accommodate the limitations of low-resolution 300 dpi laser printers, emphasizing clarity and structural stability during the early digital revolution.

Technical analysis of the letterforms reveals a robust transitional serif design with a distinctive slab-like influence in its terminals. The small caps are meticulously balanced to match the stroke weight of the standard uppercase characters, ensuring a harmonious grey-value across the page. With a generous x-height and economical horizontal proportions, the font maintains exceptional legibility even in constrained layouts. The absence of fragile hairlines allows the typeface to retain its integrity across various digital screens and high-volume print environments.
