CM Font Regular

CM Font Regular, more formally known as Computer Modern, was created by the legendary computer scientist Donald Knuth specifically for the TeX typesetting system. Developed using his METAFONT program, the font was designed to provide a high-quality, mathematically precise typeface for technical and scientific documentation. It has since become the most widely recognized typeface in the academic community, synonymous with professional research and complex mathematical notation.

The design of CM Font Regular is rooted in the Modern (or Didone) style, characterized by its high contrast between thick and thin strokes and its vertical stress. It was inspired by the Monotype Modern 8A designs used in academic journals during the mid-20th century. Because of its open-source nature and its unparalleled ability to render equations legibly, it remains the default choice for the LaTeX community and is essential for high-end book production and scientific publishing.
