Copperplate Std 31 AB Regular

Copperplate Std 31 AB Regular is a classic typeface designed by the prolific Frederic W. Goudy in 1901 for the American Type Founders (ATF). Although it is categorized as a serif font, it is specifically a glyphic serif, characterized by its very small, sharp, and delicate serifs that give it a sturdy, monolinear appearance. The typeface is unique in that it consists entirely of capital letters, with lowercase positions filled by small capitals, creating a highly structured and formal visual rhythm.

Historically, this font became the industry standard for professional stationery, particularly in the fields of law, banking, and commerce. Its design conveys a sense of established authority, stability, and elegance without the ornate complexity of traditional serif fonts. The '31 AB' designation refers to its specific weight and optical sizing within the broader Copperplate Gothic family, optimized for clarity and impact in high-quality print and engraving.
