Domaine Display Extrabold Italic

Domaine Display Extrabold Italic is a masterful creation by Kris Sowersby of the Klim Type Foundry, released in 2013. The typeface is a contemporary reimagining of the Latin style, specifically drawing inspiration from 19th-century French typography found in the catalogs of Deberny & Peignot. It serves as a bridge between the structural rigor of Scotch Romans and the flamboyant decorative qualities of French serifs, resulting in a typeface that is both familiar and strikingly modern.

The Extrabold Italic variant is designed specifically for large-scale display use, where its high contrast and sharp, triangular serifs can be fully appreciated. It originated from a custom commission for a magazine redesign, evolving into a comprehensive family that has become a staple in luxury branding and high-end editorial design. Its dramatic slant and heavy weight provide a sense of authority and sophistication that is rare in modern serif families.
