Egyptian 505 Bold

Egyptian 505 Bold is a distinguished slab-serif typeface designed by André Gürtler in 1967. Originally created for the Visual Graphics Corporation (VGC), this font represents a refined approach to the Egyptian style, blending 19th-century industrial robustness with the clarity and precision of mid-century Swiss typography. The bold weight is particularly praised for its balanced proportions and sturdy construction, which allow it to stand out without losing the elegance typical of Gürtler's work.

The structural characteristics of Egyptian 505 Bold include strong, unbracketed serifs and a relatively low contrast between thick and thin strokes. This makes it exceptionally legible in display sizes and high-impact editorial layouts. Throughout the decades, it has remained a staple for designers who require a slab-serif that communicates both authority and a touch of vintage sophistication, bridging the gap between historical letterforms and modern graphic requirements.
