Franklin Gothic Book Normal

Franklin Gothic Book Normal is a cornerstone of the American sans-serif tradition, originally designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1902 for American Type Founders (ATF). The 'Book' weight was later expanded by Victor Caruso for the International Typeface Corporation (ITC) in the 1970s to better suit longer passages of text and modern typesetting needs. It maintains the classic, sturdy characteristics of the Gothic style while offering a more legible weight suitable for editorial work and professional interfaces.

Characterized by its high x-height and slightly condensed proportions, this typeface has remained popular for over a century due to its versatile nature. Its clean lines and professional demeanor make it a preferred choice for corporate identities, informational signage, and newspaper body text. As a staple of the grotesque genre, it remains a reliable tool for designers seeking a balance between historical authority and contemporary clarity.
