Georgia Italique

Georgia Italique was designed in 1993 by the world-renowned type designer Matthew Carter for Microsoft. It was specifically engineered to solve the problem of screen legibility, featuring a high x-height and open counters that remain clear even at small sizes on low-resolution monitors. Unlike many digital fonts of its era, Georgia was not a port of a print face but was built from the pixel up to ensure a superior reading experience in digital environments.

The Italique variant is a true italic, influenced by traditional calligraphic forms rather than being a simple slanted version of the roman weight. This gives the typeface a graceful, fluid motion that provides excellent contrast and emphasis within blocks of text. Today, it remains one of the most widely used and respected transitional serif typefaces in both web development and professional publishing.
