Gibson Serif Thin Regular

Gibson Serif was developed by Rod McDonald and released through Canada Type as a sophisticated companion to the iconic Gibson sans-serif family. The typeface was named in honor of John Gibson, a legendary figure in Canadian graphic design and a co-founder of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada. Originally part of a philanthropic initiative to provide high-quality typography for design students and professionals, the serif version was crafted to provide a more traditional, editorial-ready counterpart while maintaining the warmth and humanistic proportions that made the original family a global standard.

The Thin Regular weight of Gibson Serif is a masterclass in delicate stroke modulation and refined geometry. It features a generous x-height that enhances legibility in digital environments, despite the extreme lightness of its strokes. The letterforms are characterized by sharp, bracketed serifs and open counters that prevent the face from feeling cluttered at smaller sizes. Its vertical axis and clean terminals offer a contemporary take on transitional serif models, making it particularly effective for high-fashion layouts where its elegant hairlines can be showcased against minimalist white space.
