Gotham Book

Gotham Book is a prominent geometric sans-serif typeface family designed by American type designer Tobias Frere-Jones in 2000. It was originally commissioned by GQ magazine, whose editors sought a sans-serif with a geometric structure that would look masculine, new, and fresh for their publication. The inspiration for Gotham's design came from the architectural signage of the mid-twentieth century found throughout New York City, particularly the lettering on the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Since its release, the font has achieved massive cultural significance, most notably serving as the primary typeface for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. The 'Book' weight is specifically engineered for long-form reading, providing a balanced and legible experience that maintains the typeface's honest and professional character. It is celebrated for its wide apertures and high x-height, which ensure clarity across both digital interfaces and traditional print media.
