Gotham Book Italic

Gotham Book Italic is a sophisticated member of the iconic Gotham typeface family, which was originally commissioned by GQ magazine and designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in 2000. The design was inspired by the architectural signage and utilitarian lettering found throughout mid-century New York City. This specific Book weight offers a refined balance, making it light enough for dense text while maintaining the geometric clarity and honesty that the Gotham family is famous for.

The Italic variation introduces a dynamic slant that provides emphasis without sacrificing the typeface's characteristic structural integrity. Known for its wide apertures and mathematical precision, Gotham rose to global prominence as the typographic face of the 2008 Obama presidential campaign. Today, Gotham Book Italic remains a go-to choice for designers looking to convey authority, modernity, and a clean aesthetic in high-end editorial and corporate environments.
