Gotham Narrow Book Italic

Gotham Narrow Book Italic is an essential variant of the wider Gotham family, designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in the early 2000s. Originally inspired by the architectural and vernacular signage of mid-century New York City—specifically the lettering found at the Port Authority Bus Terminal—Gotham was created to be an honest, muscular, and geometric sans-serif. The Narrow edition was introduced to provide designers with a more space-efficient option without sacrificing the typeface's signature authoritative tone and clarity.

The Book Italic weight offers a sophisticated, professional slant that is perfect for providing emphasis within large blocks of text or for creating distinct sub-headers. Characterized by its large x-height, open apertures, and geometric precision, this font ensures maximum legibility even in constrained layouts. Since its rise to global prominence during the 2008 Obama presidential campaign, the Gotham family has become a staple for high-end branding, editorial design, and corporate communications across the globe.
