Gotham Narrow Ultra Italic

Gotham Narrow Ultra Italic is a distinguished member of the broader Gotham typeface family, which was famously inspired by the non-typographic architectural signage found throughout mid-century New York City. Originally commissioned for GQ magazine, designer Tobias Frere-Jones sought to capture the geometric honesty and utilitarian spirit of these urban letterforms. The result was a typeface that feels both timeless and modern, embodying a distinct sense of authority and clarity that has made it a staple in contemporary design.

The Narrow variant was specifically engineered to address the needs of designers working within constrained horizontal spaces without sacrificing the family's signature legibility. The Ultra Italic weight and style provide an intense visual weight and a dynamic sense of motion, making it an excellent choice for high-impact editorial layouts and aggressive branding. By blending the structure of geometric sans-serifs with the efficiency of a condensed width, this font offers a unique balance of style and functionality.
