ITC Berkeley Oldstyle Medium

ITC Berkeley Oldstyle was designed by Tony Stan in 1983 for the International Typeface Corporation. It is a faithful revival of the California Old Style typeface, which was originally created by Frederic W. Goudy in 1938 for the University of California Press. This Medium weight provides a robust yet elegant presence on the page, preserving the calligraphic origins and warmth of Goudy’s original drawings while adapting them for modern typesetting technology.

The typeface is characterized by its distinctive serifs, generous x-height, and moderate contrast, making it exceptionally legible in long-form text. It is widely considered one of the most successful adaptations of Goudy's work, favored by typographers for its ability to convey a sense of authority and tradition without appearing dated. Its graceful proportions make it an essential tool for high-quality editorial and book design.
