Iwona Medium Italic is a distinctive two-element sans-serif typeface that has its roots in the traditional Polish type foundry industry. Originally designed in the 1970s by Małgorzata Budyta for the Warsaw Type Foundry, it was specifically engineered for cartographic purposes, ensuring that text remained legible even when overlaid on complex maps and geographical charts. The digital version was meticulously recreated and expanded by Janusz Marian Nowacki, transforming it into a versatile family used widely in modern typesetting.

This particular weight and slant provide a balanced, professional look that excels in technical environments. Because of its origins in map-making, the font features clear differentiation between characters and a rhythmic flow that aids fast reading. It is part of the GUST e-foundry collection and is frequently utilized within the TeX and LaTeX communities for academic papers, scientific journals, and detailed technical documentation where precision is paramount.
