Kis Regular

Kis Regular is a distinguished Baroque serif typeface that carries a rich historical legacy originating in the late 17th century. While the design was long attributed to the Dutch printer Anton Janson, it was later discovered through archival research that the original matrices were the work of the Hungarian punchcutter Miklós Kis in Amsterdam around 1685. The typeface is characterized by its sharp, sturdy serifs and a high degree of contrast for its time, offering a level of clarity that set a new standard for printing during the transition from Old Style to the more rationalized forms of the 18th century.

In contemporary typography, Kis Regular is highly regarded for its rhythmic flow and exceptional legibility in long-form text. Its structure is both elegant and robust, making it a favorite for book designers who require a font that can handle dense editorial layouts without losing its classic aesthetic appeal. The revival of these forms ensures that the intricate craftsmanship of Kis continues to provide an authoritative yet graceful voice for academic, literary, and high-end editorial projects.
