Korolev Heavy Italic Regular

Korolev Heavy Italic Regular is a powerful component of the larger Korolev family, designed by the prolific British type designer and illustrator Rian Hughes. The typeface is named after Sergey Korolev, the father of the Soviet space program, and its design is deeply rooted in the geometric lettering seen on Soviet propaganda posters and socialist-realist graphics from the early 20th century. This specific weight captures the industrial strength and visionary spirit of that era while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic suitable for contemporary design.

The Heavy Italic variant is characterized by its aggressive slant and thick strokes, which provide a sense of speed, momentum, and authority. Unlike traditional italics that lean towards calligraphic forms, Korolev remains strictly geometric, making it a favorite for designers who need a sans-serif that communicates both historical gravity and forward-looking dynamism. It has been widely utilized in editorial layouts, high-impact advertising, and brand identities that require a bold, uncompromising voice.
