Maxima Nouva is a comprehensive revival and modern expansion of the classic Maxima typeface, which was originally developed by Karl-Heinz Lange in the 1960s. Designed to be a versatile and objective grotesque, it served as the functional alternative to Helvetica and Univers in East Germany. The "Nouva" version, updated by Gert Wiescher, brings this historical precision into the digital age with refined outlines and a massive range of weights for contemporary use.
The ExtBd Regular (Extra Bold Regular) variant is particularly striking for its heavy, authoritative presence while maintaining the clarity and balance inherent in the original design. It features tight apertures and a high x-height, making it exceptionally legible even in high-impact display settings. This font is a perfect bridge between mid-century industrial modernism and contemporary digital clean-line aesthetics, suitable for both screen and print.
