Media Sans Extended Bold

Media Sans Extended Bold is a striking display typeface designed by Christian Schwartz and released through Production Type in 2018. The font family was inspired by the tight, aggressive headline typography found in French newspapers and magazines from the 1960s and 70s. It features a exceptionally high x-height and ultra-tight spacing, which creates a dense, powerful texture on the page that demands immediate attention.

The Extended Bold weight specifically pushes the horizontal boundaries of the typeface, offering a massive footprint for editorial and branding applications. It bridges the gap between mid-century modernism and the expressive display styles of the late 20th century. Its robust construction ensures that it remains legible even when stretched across wide formats, making it a favorite for contemporary designers who want to move away from standard neutrals toward more assertive typography.
