Media Sans Extended Ultra Italic

Media Sans Extended Ultra Italic is a powerhouse display typeface designed by Jean-Baptiste Levée and released through the French foundry Production Type in 2018. Originally conceived to capture the bold, tight-fitting aesthetic of 1960s and 70s editorial design, it thrives in environments where horizontal space is abundant but attention is fleeting. The Extended Ultra Italic variant pushes the boundaries of width and slant, offering a high-energy, aggressive look that pays homage to the 'chunky' sans serifs famously utilized in classic French news magazines like Paris Match.

Functionally, this font is engineered for massive scale and dramatic impact. Its construction favors extremely tight spacing and high-contrast weight, making it an ideal choice for dynamic headlines, avant-garde posters, and digital hero sections. Despite its vintage roots, the typeface maintains a distinctly contemporary edge, stripped of unnecessary ornamentation to ensure its heavy forms remain legible yet visually overwhelming. It is a key part of the larger Media Sans family, providing designers with a specialized tool for creating sophisticated, high-pressure typographic hierarchies.
