Media Sans Ultra Italic

Media Sans Ultra Italic is a contemporary display typeface designed by Jean-Baptiste Levée and published by Production Type. Drawing inspiration from the tight-fitting, high-contrast headlines found in 1970s French editorial design—specifically the newspaper Libération—Media Sans was built to thrive in cramped spaces where impact is the primary objective. The Ultra Italic weight represents the most extreme and aggressive variant of the family, combining massive weight with a dynamic slant that suggests speed and authority.

The typeface is defined by its exceptionally large x-height and minimal descenders, which allow for incredibly tight line spacing (leading). This creates a dense, textural wall of text that is highly effective for modern editorial layouts, posters, and bold branding projects. Media Sans Ultra Italic manages to bridge the gap between mid-century industrial sans-serifs and current high-fashion aesthetics, making it a versatile tool for designers looking to make a loud, sophisticated statement.
