Metric Black Regular is a geometric humanist typeface designed by Kris Sowersby and released through the Klim Type Foundry in 2011. The design is uniquely grounded in the street signs of Berlin, specifically the lettering found on these municipal signs which Sowersby translated into a cohesive typographic system. Unlike many geometric fonts that follow strict mathematical rules, Metric incorporates humanist qualities that give it a distinct rhythmic flow and legibility.
The Black weight is the heaviest expression of the Metric family, offering a powerful and authoritative presence. It was developed alongside its companion typeface, Calibre; while Calibre is based on different proportions, the two share a similar DNA. Metric Black is widely used in high-end branding, editorial design, and environmental graphics where a bold, modern, and sophisticated aesthetic is required.
