Neue Plak Condensed Extra Black

Neue Plak Condensed Extra Black is a modern revival and expansion of Paul Renner’s original Plak typeface, which was first released in 1928. While Renner is most famous for Futura, Plak was designed as a more robust and versatile sans-serif alternative. Monotype designers Linda Hintz and Toshi Omagari revisited the original wood type specimens to create this expansive system, ensuring that the Extra Black weight maintains the soul of the original while meeting contemporary design standards.

This specific condensed variant is engineered for maximum visual impact where horizontal space is limited. The Extra Black weight features tight apertures and thick strokes that command attention, making it an excellent choice for designers looking for a typeface that bridge the gap between historic German grotesque styles and modern digital utility. It is particularly effective in environments where legibility must be paired with a powerful, industrial aesthetic.
