OFL Sorts Mill Goudy Italic

OFL Sorts Mill Goudy Italic is a refined digital revival of Goudy Old Style, one of the most famous typefaces designed by the prolific American type designer Frederic Goudy. This specific version was developed by Barry Schwartz as part of the League of Moveable Type project, aiming to provide a high-quality, open-source rendition of the 1915 classic. The italic variant is particularly celebrated for its rhythmic flow and calligraphic elegance, maintaining the warmth and humanistic touch that Goudy was known for.

The typeface is characterized by its classic proportions and distinctive features, such as the eccentric ear of the lowercase 'g' and the diamond-shaped dots over the 'i' and 'j'. Because it was designed with traditional typesetting principles in mind, it offers exceptional readability in long-form print and digital literature. Under the SIL Open Font License, it serves as a versatile tool for designers who require a sophisticated, old-style serif that bridges the gap between early 20th-century craftsmanship and modern digital accessibility.
