P22 Mackinac Extra Bold SC

P22 Mackinac Extra Bold SC is a distinguished and powerful serif typeface designed by Michael Gills as part of the broader P22 Mackinac family. This specific variant focuses on a heavy-weight presence combined with small capitals (SC), drawing inspiration from the transitional and old-style book faces prevalent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The P22 Type Foundry released this family to bridge the gap between historical elegance and modern digital utility, resulting in a face that feels both timeless and grounded.

The Extra Bold SC version is characterized by its robust letterforms, sturdy serifs, and exceptional clarity even at high densities. Its organic, humanist curves prevent the heavy weight from feeling overly industrial, instead providing a warm, authoritative tone. This makes it an excellent choice for designers looking to convey a sense of heritage and stability while ensuring their message commands attention in high-impact editorial or commercial settings.
