P22 Mackinac Medium

P22 Mackinac Medium is a sophisticated serif typeface that captures the essence of classic old-style letterforms while incorporating a modern, approachable warmth. Designed by Michael G. Adkins for the P22 Type Foundry, this weight sits perfectly between the light and bold versions of the family, offering a sturdy yet graceful presence on the page. Its design is characterized by soft terminal treatments and a balanced x-height, which ensures exceptional readability across both digital and physical platforms.

Historically, the Mackinac family was inspired by the rugged beauty and historical significance of the American Great Lakes region, aiming to provide a functional tool for high-end book design and editorial work. The Medium weight is particularly versatile, serving as a workhorse for body copy that requires a bit more substance than a standard book weight, without the heavy impact of a display face. It maintains a humanistic touch that reflects calligraphic origins, making it an enduring choice for professional typographers.
