Public Sans ExtraBold Regular

Public Sans ExtraBold Regular is a robust, neutral typeface based on the open-source Libre Franklin font. It was developed by the United States Web Design System (USWDS) to serve as a high-quality, accessible, and versatile typeface for public-facing government websites. The ExtraBold weight provides a commanding presence, making it an excellent choice for designers who need to establish a strong visual hierarchy while maintaining the clean, professional aesthetic of the USWDS design principles.

The typeface is an evolution of classic American gothic proportions, refined for digital screens to ensure maximum legibility across various devices. Because it is optimized for modern web interfaces, it avoids decorative flourishes, focusing instead on clarity and utilitarian function. Its open-source nature and clean geometry have made it a favorite in the design community for everything from complex data dashboards to high-impact corporate branding projects.
