Relay Compressed Bold

Relay Compressed Bold is a powerful sans-serif typeface designed by the renowned typographer Cyrus Highsmith and released through Font Bureau in 2002. The design is deeply rooted in the aesthetic traditions of the early 20th century, drawing significant inspiration from the works of Eric Gill and W.A. Dwiggins. It successfully bridges the gap between the structured rigor of industrial sans-serifs and the warmth of humanist proportions, resulting in a face that is both authoritative and approachable.

This particular Compressed Bold weight is engineered for maximum impact within limited horizontal spaces. Its high x-height and tight apertures make it an exceptional choice for editorial design, particularly in newspaper headlines and magazine layouts. By combining Art Deco elegance with mid-century modern functionality, Relay Compressed Bold offers designers a versatile tool for creating rhythmic, high-contrast display typography that remains legible even at intense weights.
