Ruda Regular

Developed by Mariela Monsalve and Angelica Diaz, Ruda was originally conceived as a typeface for product labeling and technical documentation. Its origins lie in the need for a highly functional, utilitarian sans-serif that remains readable under restrictive printing conditions or small digital formats. As a project released under the SIL Open Font License via Google Fonts, it has become a staple for designers seeking a balance between a technical aesthetic and approachable character design, specifically optimized for high-performance screen rendering.

Technically, Ruda Regular stands out due to its generous x-height and distinctive humanist stroke modulation. The letterforms feature vertical terminals and open apertures that prevent visual clogging at small point sizes, making it exceptionally legible in dense UI layouts. Its visual weight is meticulously balanced, offering a sturdy presence without feeling overly heavy. The subtle calligraphic influences provide a rhythmic flow that guides the eye across lines of text, effectively bridging the gap between mechanical precision and organic warmth for long-form reading.
