SF Pro Display Black Italic

SF Pro Display Black Italic is a core weight within the San Francisco typeface family, custom-designed by Apple Inc. to harmonize with the sleek aesthetics of their software and hardware ecosystem. Originally unveiled in 2014, this variant was engineered specifically for high-density Retina displays, replacing previous system fonts like Helvetica Neue to offer improved clarity and a more contemporary feel. The Black Italic weight is the most forceful and dynamic in the family, combining extreme thickness with a sharp slant to convey speed and authority.

As a Neo-Grotesque sans-serif, it features an optical sizing system that adjusts spacing and tracking automatically based on the text size. This specific weight is part of the 'Display' range, meaning it is optimized for use at 20 points or larger. It serves as a benchmark for modern interface design, blending minimalist geometry with high-performance legibility features that make it a favorite for developers and graphic designers worldwide.
