Söhne Breit Extrafett Italic is a monumental wide-set sans-serif designed by Kris Sowersby of the Klim Type Foundry. It represents the 'memory' of Akzidenz-Grotesk, capturing the specific aesthetic of 20th-century Swiss typography while refining it for contemporary digital needs. The Breit (Wide) variant specifically explores the horizontal expansion of letterforms, providing a commanding presence that feels both grounded and incredibly modern.
The Extrafett Italic weight and style are crafted for maximum impact, combining the heavy density of an extra-bold weight with the dynamic energy of a true italic. It is designed to function perfectly in high-resolution environments where its precise curves and robust structure can be fully appreciated. This typeface is a masterclass in balancing historical industrial roots with the sleek, high-end requirements of modern branding and editorial design.
