Söhne Breit Halbfett Regular

Söhne Breit Halbfett Regular is a masterful extension of the Söhne family, designed to capture the essence of the Akzidenz-Grotesk style as utilized in the New York City subway signage by Massimo Vignelli. The 'Breit' or 'Wide' classification signifies an expanded horizontal proportion, which gives the typeface a grounded, authoritative presence. This specific weight, Halbfett (Semi-bold), strikes a balance between functional clarity and expressive strength, making it a favorite for modernists who appreciate the intersection of historical analog materiality and digital precision.

The typeface is engineered with tight apertures and consistent stroke weights, ensuring that even at wide proportions, the text remains cohesive and legible. Söhne Breit Halbfett is particularly effective in environments where space allows for horizontal expansion, such as architectural headers or cinematic title sequences. It represents a refined evolution of the grotesque genre, offering designers a sophisticated tool for creating structured, impactful layouts that feel both timeless and contemporary.
