Söhne Breit Leicht Italic

Söhne Breit Leicht Italic is a masterful extension of the Söhne family, which serves as a contemporary homage to the 'standard' typeface, Akzidenz-Grotesk. Designed by Kris Sowersby, this specific variant captures the materiality and 'vibe' of its historical predecessor while optimizing the geometry for digital screens and modern printing techniques. The 'Breit' (wide) classification provides an expansive horizontal presence that gives text a sense of confidence and architectural stability.

The Leicht (Light) Italic weight brings a delicate, airy quality to the wide proportions, creating a sophisticated tension between the broad character widths and the slender stroke weights. This italic is not a simple slanting of the roman characters but a carefully balanced version that maintains the structural integrity and legibility required for professional typography. It is an ideal choice for designers looking for a grotesque that feels both classic and distinctly current.
