Söhne Extrafett Regular

Söhne Extrafett Regular is a powerhouse weight within the Söhne family, designed by the renowned Kris Sowersby of Klim Type Foundry. It serves as a modern homage to the legendary Akzidenz-Grotesk, capturing the raw, industrial energy of the late 19th-century grotesques while refining them for high-resolution digital screens. The "Extrafett" weight, which translates to "extra bold" or "extra fat," offers maximum impact and presence, making it an essential tool for designers seeking a balance between historical authority and contemporary precision.

This typeface is characterized by its tight apertures and high horizontal stroke contrast, which provides a distinctive rhythm in large-scale applications. Unlike many digital revivals that smooth out the quirks of their predecessors, Söhne embraces the idiosyncratic charms of the original lead typeset specimens. It has become a staple in modern editorial design and corporate identity, known for its ability to command attention without sacrificing legibility or aesthetic sophistication.
