Söhne Extraleicht Italic

Söhne Extraleicht Italic is a distinguished member of the Söhne collection, designed by the renowned Kris Sowersby of Klim Type Foundry. This typeface serves as a meticulous evolution of the classic Akzidenz-Grotesk, capturing the essence of the standard-bearer of the late 19th-century Swiss style while introducing contemporary precision. The 'Extraleicht' weight, which translates to Extra Light, offers a delicate and ethereal presence, providing a sophisticated alternative to heavier neo-grotesque fonts that dominate modern media.

The development of the Söhne family involved a deep study of the physical artifacts of the Grotesk genre. Kris Sowersby aimed to recreate the distinct 'vibe' of the original metal typefaces rather than just producing a digital facsimile. This specific italic variant maintains a subtle slant that preserves readability while adding a sense of motion and elegance, making it an ideal choice for high-end editorial design and branding projects that require a touch of modern minimalism and professional clarity.
