City Light Regular

City Light Regular is a distinguished weight within the broader City typeface family, originally designed by the renowned German graphic designer Georg Trump in 1930 for the Berthold Type Foundry. Characterized by its unique, geometric slab serif structure, the typeface breaks away from traditional rounded forms, favoring a more industrial, square-like aesthetic that was revolutionary during the pre-war modernist era. Its rigid, rhythmic appearance gives it a structural quality reminiscent of the cityscapes and architectural developments of the early 20th century.

While the bolder weights of the City family are often used for heavy impact, the Light Regular variant provides a sophisticated and airy alternative. It retains the signature rectangular serifs and mechanical precision but offers improved legibility and a more subtle presence on the page. Today, it remains a favorite among designers looking to evoke a sense of retro-modernism or industrial elegance in contemporary branding and editorial layouts.
