Fontin Italic

Fontin Italic was designed by Jos Buivenga of the exljbris Font Foundry. Originally conceived to be used at small sizes, the font features a relatively high x-height and short ascenders and descenders, which ensures exceptional legibility in confined spaces. The italic weight is particularly celebrated for its fluid, calligraphic nature, offering a distinct visual departure from the roman version while maintaining a balanced and professional aesthetic.

As one of the first high-quality free fonts released by exljbris, Fontin helped establish Buivenga's reputation in the global design community. The italic style is not merely a slanted version of the regular weight but a carefully crafted typeface with its own rhythm and personality. Its versatility makes it a favorite for both print and digital media, bridging the gap between classic old-style serifs and contemporary functional typography.
