Gotham XLight

Gotham XLight is a sophisticated geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in the early 2000s. Originally inspired by the architectural signage and neon displays of mid-century New York City, the Gotham family has become a staple of modern typography. The XLight weight specifically provides an ethereal, airy quality that emphasizes the clean, mathematical proportions of the letterforms without the heavy presence of its bolder counterparts.

This typeface rose to global prominence through its use in high-profile branding and political campaigns, most notably the 2008 Obama presidential run. Gotham XLight is particularly valued in high-end editorial and luxury branding for its ability to convey authority through a minimalist and understated lens. Its wide apertures and generous tracking make it a favorite for designers seeking a contemporary, professional aesthetic that feels both fresh and timeless.
