IM FELL French Canon PRO Italic

The IM FELL French Canon PRO Italic is a masterful digital revival of the historical types collected by Bishop John Fell for the Oxford University Press in the 17th century. This specific cut, the "French Canon," refers to the traditional size of the type—roughly 28 points—which Igino Marini has meticulously digitized to preserve the organic, hand-cut character of the original metal punches. The italic variant is particularly noted for its elegant, flowing rhythm and the subtle irregularities that provide a genuine sense of antique authenticity and scholarly weight.

As part of the Fell Types collection, this Pro version features an expanded character set and refined OpenType features, making it highly versatile for contemporary publishing. It bridges the gap between the Renaissance and Baroque eras, offering a sophisticated aesthetic that is both archaic and timeless. Designers often turn to this typeface when they need to convey heritage, authority, or a literary atmosphere that modern, clean-cut serifs simply cannot replicate.
