Obviously Comp Supr Italic

Obviously Comp Supr Italic is a standout member of the massive Obviously family, a typeface system designed by James Edmondson and released under the OH no Type Co foundry. The design philosophy behind this font was to create a flexible, expressive sans-serif that moves away from the rigid neutrality of mid-century Swiss designs. Inspired by the diverse and often quirky lettering found in early-to-mid 20th-century American advertising, the family encompasses an enormous range of widths and weights to provide designers with a complete toolkit for expressive typography.

The Compressed Super Italic variant specifically emphasizes high-velocity motion and vertical efficiency. By combining a tightly packed horizontal footprint with an extreme italic slant, this style creates a sense of urgent momentum and modern energy. It is expertly crafted to maintain legibility despite its narrow proportions and aggressive lean, making it a favorite for designers looking to inject personality into cramped layouts or high-impact display environments where horizontal space is limited.
