Pilat Extended Book Regular

Pilat Extended Book Regular is a standout member of the Pilat family, a comprehensive sans-serif system designed by Stéphane Elbaz and published by General Type Studio. The typeface finds its roots in the mechanical and industrial aesthetics of early 20th-century signage, specifically drawing inspiration from the rigid yet functional letterforms found on French car license plates. This Extended version maximizes the horizontal footprint, offering a wide, panoramic feel that suggests stability, modernism, and a distinctively architectural presence.

Despite its industrial origins, Pilat Extended Book Regular incorporates subtle humanistic touches and refined geometry that make it highly versatile for modern digital environments. The design features wide apertures and carefully balanced strokes, ensuring that while the font feels robust and technical, it maintains excellent legibility at various scales. It has become a favorite among designers for contemporary branding, editorial layouts, and high-impact web design where a sense of structured sophistication is required.
