Scout Regular

Scout Regular is a high-performance sans-serif typeface designed by Cyrus Highsmith and originally released through Font Bureau. The typeface was born out of a commission for the Houston Chronicle and the Baltimore Sun, designed to be a versatile utility player capable of handling the rigors of modern newspaper production. It successfully combines the organized, industrial structure of DIN with the approachable, humanist qualities of classic American gothics like News Gothic.

Characterized by its large x-height, open counters, and rhythmic spacing, Scout excels in demanding environments where legibility is paramount. While it was engineered for the dense columns of daily newsprint, its clean lines and modern aesthetic have made it a popular choice for digital interfaces, corporate identities, and environmental wayfinding. It stands as a sophisticated example of functional design that does not sacrifice character for clarity.
