Verdana Normal

Verdana Normal was commissioned by Microsoft and designed by the legendary type designer Matthew Carter, with hand-hinting performed by Tom Rickner. Released in 1996, it was specifically engineered to address the challenges of on-screen display. Unlike many fonts of its time that were adapted from print, Verdana was built from the ground up to be legible at small sizes on low-resolution computer monitors.

The typeface is a Humanist sans-serif characterized by a large x-height, wide proportions, and generous letter spacing. These features prevent the characters from bleeding into one another, making it one of the most readable fonts for digital interfaces. Even decades after its release, it remains a gold standard for web typography and user experience design due to its functional clarity and universal compatibility.
