Druk Wide Super Italic

Druk Wide Super Italic is a powerhouse typeface belonging to the broader Druk family, designed by Berton Hasebe and released through Commercial Type. Originally inspired by the heavy, condensed lettering of Dutch designer Willem Sandberg, the Druk collection was commissioned for Bloomberg Businessweek to provide a versatile range of typographic voices. The Wide sub-family specifically explores the extreme horizontal expansion of letterforms, resulting in a font that feels cinematic, authoritative, and unapologetically bold.

The Super Italic variant is characterized by its aggressive slant and massive weight, conveying a sense of high-speed motion and modern intensity. Its structure lacks traditional curves in many areas, opting instead for sharp angles and thick strokes that maintain legibility even at extreme widths. This typeface has become a favorite in editorial design, luxury branding, and high-performance sports graphics, where it is used to create headlines that demand immediate viewer attention.
